2012 Matt visits Laos and Thailand
In 2012 Matt visited Laos & Thailand in South East Asia. While he was there he visited a project that helped young girls & women escape the sex slavery.
Whilst there he learned how large numbers of girls and parents in poor rural villages are 'visited' by traffickers. The traffickers promise girls a job across the border in Thailand in one of the many karaoke bars. They offer them a bright future but the reality is that these karaoke bars are generally brothels where men pay for drink, singing and sex.
Girls between 12-18 yrs (and some much younger) are often taken from their homes or sold.
Many western men will come to these 'bars' specifically to have sex with under age girls. These 'tourists' have massively contributed to the growth of this industry in South East Asia.
After this trip, Matt was determined to make a change by combining his passion for surfing with the mission to help in some way and so the seeds of Noa Surf Collective began......
